NEW: Smart Film SERVICES

Factory Certified Installers — Trained at the Source

We’re factory certified on switchable smart film installation, trained directly by the manufacturer on proper technique, electrical requirements, and quality standards. That certification isn’t tied to a single brand. We work with multiple suppliers across a range of price points, which means we can match the right product to your specific project rather than steering you toward a single option. Every switchable film installation is custom ordered to your exact dimensions and configuration. There’s no off-the-shelf version of this product and any installer telling you otherwise is worth a second look.

One thing worth knowing upfront is that not every switchable film installation requires an electrician. Some configurations plug directly into a standard wall outlet, which keeps the project simple, fast, and significantly more affordable. For larger installations or situations where a hardwired solution makes more sense, we handle all the film and low voltage connections at the glass and work alongside licensed electricians we know and trust for the line voltage work behind the wall. We can coordinate that piece or work directly with your existing electrician. The goal is a complete working installation that fits your space and your budget, not a one-size-fits-all approach that adds cost where it isn’t needed.

Where Switchable Smart Film Makes the Most Sense

Conference rooms are the most common application we see. Glass-walled meeting rooms are a design staple in modern offices but they create an immediate privacy problem. Film solves it without frosting the glass permanently. One switch and the room is private. Another and it’s open again. For businesses that use their conference rooms for sensitive conversations, client presentations, or anything they’d rather not broadcast to the open office, it’s a practical solution that looks intentional rather than like an afterthought.

Home offices are a close second, particularly ground floor rooms or spaces that face a common area or street. The flexibility matters here. You want the room open and connected to the rest of the house most of the time and completely private when you’re on a call or working through something you don’t want interrupted.

Bathrooms and bedroom windows where frosted film isn’t the right answer because you want the option to open the view up, a fixed frost solves the privacy problem but takes away the glass entirely. Switchable gives you both.

Storefronts and retail environments use it as a display tool as much as a privacy one. A switched-off window creates a presentation surface. Switched on, the display disappears and the storefront opens up. Some clients use it on a timer. Others tie it into their existing building automation system.

Primary bedrooms with street-facing or neighbor-facing glass are another frequent request, particularly in the South Bay where homes sit close together and views worth keeping face the same direction as the privacy problem.

What to Expect from Switchable Smart Film

The product switches fast, typically in milliseconds, and the transition is clean. When it’s clear it’s genuinely clear, not hazy or tinted. When it’s opaque it’s a consistent frosted white that blocks visibility completely. That said there is a slight haze in the clear state that is inherent to the technology, not a defect. Under normal lighting conditions most people don’t notice it. Under certain angles or lighting it becomes more apparent. We tell every client this upfront because it occasionally surprises people who are expecting the clarity of standard glass.

Control options vary depending on the configuration. A basic wall switch is the most common. Remote controls, dimmers, smartphone apps, and integration with home automation systems like Lutron, Crestron, and Control4 are all available depending on the product and setup. If you have an existing smart home system we can discuss compatibility before the order is placed, not after.
The film is custom ordered to your exact dimensions. Lead time varies by supplier and configuration but plan for it in your project timeline. It’s not a same-week installation the way standard window film is. We’ll give you a realistic timeline when we quote the job.

Maintenance is straightforward. Clean it the way you’d clean any window. Avoid abrasive materials on the film surface. The edges where the film meets the frame should stay sealed to prevent moisture from working in over time, something we address during installation.
Outdoor applications exist but indoor is where the product performs best and lasts longest. If you have an exterior application in mind we’ll evaluate it honestly and tell you what to expect.

Switchable Smart Film for South Bay Homes and Businesses

We’re based in Redondo Beach and most of our switchable film calls come from the South Bay, homeowners in Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach dealing with privacy on Strand-facing glass, businesses in Torrance and El Segundo looking to upgrade conference rooms and office partitions, and residential clients throughout the peninsula who want a cleaner solution than blinds or curtains on large west-facing windows.

This is still a relatively new service category in the South Bay market. Most homeowners and business owners we talk to have heard of the product but haven’t found a local installer with real installation experience and manufacturer training behind them. That’s the gap we’re filling. We’ve been installing window film in this market since 2001 and we brought the same approach to switchable film that we’ve applied to everything else, understand the product thoroughly, be honest about what it does and doesn’t do, and don’t put our name on an installation we’re not confident in.

If you’re in the South Bay and want to see what switchable film could do for a specific room or application, we offer free consultations. Reach us at 310.372.5357, through the contact form on this page, or through our online calendar. We typically respond same day.
